Bays and Beaches
Situated between Sydney and Newcastle, the Central Coast region begins at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River and stretches all the way to the southern end of Lake Macquarie in the north, encompassing an alluring mix of bays and beaches, inlets and lakes and lush hinterland. With a delightful mix of villages along the way, there is plenty to do on the Central Coast.
About the Central Coast
It's not hard to make the most of the relaxed coastal lifestyle in this region. Start with a serving of fresh fish and chips on the water’s edge, spend time lazing on the beach or enjoy a swim within the patrolled area of the surf.
With an abundance of natural beauty, there are also numerous outdoor activities to appeal to all ages. Take a walk through lush bushland, kayak or canoe in the region's gentle waters or follow one of the many cycle paths that weave their way through the area.
A hike through the Brisbane Waters National Park is a recommended experience. Enjoy the surrounding beauty further by following the Somersby Falls walking track, the Mooney Mooney nature walk or the Great North walk.
For those looking further afield, you can mountain bike through the Ourimbah State Forest, learn how to ride a horse at Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventures or join a diving expedition and explore the wreck of the Ex-HMAS Adelaide at the nearby dive site.
A closer encounter with native and exotic species, including snakes, lizards, crocodiles and spiders, Australian mammals, and more, can be made by visiting the family-friendly Australian Reptile Park.
There are a number of popular markets along the Central Coast specialising in handmade goods, quirky souvenirs and great gifts.
The central business hub of the Central Coast is Gosford. This area also offers a great balance of natural beauty, shopping and diverse dining options. Enjoy the peaceful setting of Mt Penang Gardens as you wander through landscaped parklands, settle in for a scenic waterside picnic or spend time exploring the national parks and state forests that surround the regional city.
