See world-class theatre and shows in Sydney

Enjoy some of the world’s best entertainment in one of the world's most iconic venues, the Sydney Opera House. Before a show take a tour of the World Heritage-listed Sydney Opera House, which sits on the edge of Sydney Harbour, one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world. Highlights under the majestic sails include some of the biggest names in opera, dance, music, theatre and comedy.

Just minutes away from the Sydney Opera House is Walsh Bay, where the Sydney Theatre Company puts on plays in the Roslyn Packer Theatre featuring Australia's finest actors. Walsh Bay, near the historic Rocks, is also home to the Sydney Dance Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre, the internationally acclaimed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contemporary dance troupe.

Near the grand Queen Victoria Building is the splendid State Theatre, which opened in 1929 and was declared the 'Palace of Dreams'. Theatre Royal is in the Harry Seidler-designed MLC Centre and Capitol Theatre is in Haymarket, near Chinatown.

You can also join theatre-goers at Sydney Harbour's edge for the latest Handa Opera production, a pop-up opera house with purpose-built bars, restaurants and a grandstand under the stars.

Next to Darling Harbour is the Sydney Lyric, and in Surry Hills is the Belvoir St Theatre, one of Australia's most respected theatres.

In Parramatta, the Riverside Theatre puts on a popular shows all year. Discover plays penned by outstanding writers at smaller venues too, including the historic SBW Stables Theatre in Kings Cross, the Hayes Theatre in Potts Point and the Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst, where you'll also find cabaret at Slide.

The Seymour Centre is in the thriving heart of University of Sydney and you can also enjoy Newtown's  nearby Enmore Theatre and King Street Theatre.
