Get ready to be inspired as the world premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical opens in Sydney in April 2014.
This will be the first performance in a global season of what is sure to be an all-singing, all-dancing international sensation.
Based on the original film that launched Baz Luhrmann’s career in 1992, this fantastically flamboyant live performance at Sydney’s iconic Lyric Theatre is a fitting tribute to one of Luhrmann’s most popular creations .
It’s the story of Scott Hasting, a championship ballroom dancer who doesn’t take well to rules and regulations. Instead, he follows his heart and risks his career by performing a routine unlike any other. Not only that, he begins dancing with a new partner, Fran, and together they attempt to win over crowds and judges alike.
Some original and well-loved songs from the film will be making a comeback for the live theatre performance, alongside a new muscial scene. Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time are all choreographed for the live event by none other than John “Cha Cha” O’Connell.
The lead male role is performed by Thomas Lacy, while Fran’s role is played by none other than Phoebe Panaretos – a local Sydney girl who studied at the Newton School of Performing Arts.
Don’t miss out on seeing these two, and the rest of the talented cast, on stage in Pyrmont this year.
