Craft Beer in Manly
Beer nerds rejoice. Manly is brewing and serving some truly unique brews, with the waterviews to match. Home to the ever popular 4 Pines brewery, the waterfront Yardarm, with craft beers from all over, and the Nomad Brewing Co, where you can taste some of the best ales on the Northern Beaches, Manly is one of the best spots in Sydney to sample craft beer.
Manly Food and Wine
Arrive on the shores of the Northern Beaches’ well-known neighbourhood of Manly and you’ll find a beach haven with a seaside village feel. Start your day with a caffeine pitstop. Coffee-wise, one of the most popular options is Barefoot Coffee Traders, which has a well-deserved reputation for great brews. Relative newcomers Showbox Coffee are also standouts, with a rotating selection of specialty beans from all around Australia. Both cafes are located on Whistler Street.
Try a laid-back start to the day with coffee and breakfast from local favourite Belgrave Cartel. They serve simple cafe fare during the day, transforming into a speakeasy/cocktail bar/music venue come nightfall, with inventive weekly themed dinners that are definitely worth booking.
Another great option is Fika Swedish Kitchen. Located on ‘the Corso’, an outdoor boardwalk and pedestrian mall which runs from the Manly Harbour to Manly Beach, Fika is one of the only Swedish cafes in Sydney. Join the homesick Swedish expats who come from near and far for their fix of traditional Swedish cakes, great coffee and Aussie-Swedish cafe fare fusion.
There are also some top-notch watering holes in Manly. For Manly-brewed ales, try the famed 4 Pines Brewing Company; overlooking the water, it’s got a great pub food menu. You can do a beer tasting at Nomad Brewing Co, or grab a drink at the Manly Wharf Hotel and take in the harbour views. You can’t go wrong with glass of vino and a pizza at Manly Wine or cocktails at Hemingway’s or new kid on the block El Beau Room.
Another great way to experience Manly’s beer brewing culture is to take a brewery tour of the Northern Beaches, where you can sip and sample your way around the area’s best breweries. You can also grab a drink and a meal at the iconic Steyne Hotel's Seaside Bistro and resident Thai diner, Harry Phat's.
For dinner or a long lunch, it’s hard to go past waterfront restaurant-of-the-moment Papi Chulo, with its succulent smoked meats. Hugos Manly is also on the waterfront, with impeccable views, food and service, and excellent pizza. And don’t miss the lively Chica Bonita’s awesome Mexican food, or Garfish’s upmarket seafood offerings.
