21 Espresso has been serving authentic Hungarian and European meals for more than 60 years. 21 Espresso is famous for its Matzo dumpling soup, schnitzels, cabbage rolls, Veal Goulash side dishes of mashed potato and creamed spinach and desserts like pancakes with numerous fillings, apple, or cherry strudel and Pischinger which is made of wafers, chocolate, and hazelnut.
The “21” was started in 1958 by Jancsi (John) Schiffer and a partner shortly after fleeing Hungary to live in Sydney. John was surprised that there was no outdoor dining given the favourable climate. He looked for and opened what is the first alfresco cafe in Australia in the then sleepy suburb of Double Bay.
Since then, Double Bay has grown around the “21” to become one of the most desired and fashionable suburbs in Australia.
21 Espresso is open every day from 8am (8.30am on Sundays) till late. The menu is extensive with over 30 main dishes, entrees, salads and desserts.
