The eclectic restaurants, bars and cafes that run the length of Newtown’s King street and up to Enmore Road make for a vibrant food scene.
On the northern end of King Street, you can get your Thai food fix with plenty of cheap-and-cheerful eateries offering great lunch specials, catering to students of the nearby University of Sydney. There are also quite a few vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the area.
Nestled within Newtown's bustling parade of bars and bistros, you will find some some seriously good up-market eats, from the degustation-only Oscillate Wildly on Australia Street and Sixpenny on Stanmore Road, to Americana haven Hartsyard.
The cafe scene in Newtown is buzzing. Check out Brewtown, known for specialty coffee and great breakfasts and stop by local icon Campos, still going strong after more than 10 years.
Newtown is known for its classic pubs, but it’s also worth checking out the bar scene. Head to The Gretz for an old-school cocktail, or swing by Corridor Bar for a stellar mojito.
