This imposing Beaux-Arts neoclassical bank designed by Ross & Rowe was originally the headquarters of the Government Savings Bank of NSW. Construction began in 1925 and the building opened in 1928. The Wunderlich firm was responsible for much of the exterior and interior decoration, and when it opened it was claimed to be the world's largest banking chamber. The Wunderlich company was one of Australia's most significant building companies.
