From Graphite to Charcoal with Paul Kefalas

Discover how different drawing materials influence the way we observe, create and communicate through art. In this four-week workshop, participants will explore the unique qualities of graphite and charcoal, developing a deeper understanding of tone, texture, light and form while building confidence in their drawing practice.
Over the first two weeks, participants will focus on graphite, learning techniques for precision, detail and tonal control. The following two weeks will introduce charcoal.
Throughout the workshop, participants will investigate how the foundational principles of drawing apply across a wide range of artistic mediums, including painting. By understanding the strengths and characteristics of graphite and charcoal, participants will gain valuable skills that can be transferred to portraiture, painting and other creative practices.
