Vivid Sydney (May 25 – June 11)

9 May 2012

Sydney Opera House Vivid Sydney is a unique annual event that transforms the city into a highly colourful and illuminated canvas of light, music and ideas. After dark, the lights come on and one of the main attractions is the Sydney Opera House, which is always featured by the Lighting of the Sails a spectacular illumination of the Opera House sails which shine in different colour schemes every few minutes.

Even though it’s eye-catching, Vivid Sydney isn’t all about lights; it’s also where art, technology and commerce intersect. It’s a summit, forum and playground for the creative industries and has helped to position Sydney as the creative hub of Australia and the Asian Pacific. It’s the biggest festival of its kind on the Southern Hemisphere and attracted over 400,000 visitors last year!

The live entertainment isn’t to be missed either! There are free exhibitions of outdoor lighting sculptures, a massive contemporary music lineup, and—if you’re more in the learning mood—there are the various summits and forums for ideas.

We love the blog. And look forward to the arrival of Vivid LIVE. Sadly we missed tickets to the ISAM audio visual spectacle by Amon Tobin. However, there are plenty of other exciting acts to see, including Sufjan Stevens. And of course, the work of URBANSCREEN! Where the sails of the Sydney Opera House become an artwork of lights and colour. So much to do, so much to see.
