Hi, my name is Ethan. I have been creating aerial imagery from helicopters for 10 years across Australia and the US. There are not many cities in the world like Sydney for an incredible selection of content to shoot from the helicopter.
As beautiful as it is, it can also be very challenging getting into desired airspaces due to the proximity of the airport and certain air restrictions.
I welcome challenges though, as it make me a better photographer. One of my favourite places to photograph from the heli in Sydney is tucking into the many bays around Sydney Harbour as it often can provide for great foreground content and give a sense of depth to an image.
I am often asked if I use drones. I do use drones for some portions of my commissioned aerial photography work, however, there is nothing like being up in the helicopter to see a composition unfold and pick up how light really changes a subject. I often take up friends or clients in the helicopter with me and at some point most will say, “you have the best job”. I can’t say I have ever disagreed.
