Matjka-wuma (String Figures)
Sunday 07 July 2019 to Sunday 14 July 2019 (DAILY event)
This NAIDOC Week, join First Nations staff in making traditional string figures like the weitj djen (emu foot) from Balardung Country in Western Australia and learn how to craft bush string or cordage using natural fibres.
Making objects or animals with just hands and string is an activity that traces well back into history throughout the world. Many Aboriginal groups traditionally made patterns or designs on the hands with a loop of string. Come and discover for yourself!
A great activity for the whole family. No booking required and entry is free (after General Admission).
