Overview

The aim of this class is to teach you understand colour and how to mix colour when painting. You will learn how to identify colour and how to replicate it by mixing paint, learning how to create shade and light in a painting.

During the day we will perform several colour mixing exercises that help you to understand how colour behaves on their own or when mixed while adjusting hue, value and chroma.

All practice in the class is done using oils however the theory and approach applies for other media including acrylics and watercolour

No turpentine is used in the class

These exercises will include preparation of own colour wheels, value studies, local colour matching and painting from life. There will also be a short introduction about pigments and other painting materials.

During the second part of the day we will focus on other practical exercises where we apply what we learned earlier into a small painting.
