Beach lifestyle at Bondi Beach
Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach has something for everyone: surf and sand, glitzy bars and cafes, a farmers market, boutique street stalls, scenic running tracks and accommodation to suit a range of budgets.
Located just 8km from the CBD, Bondi is one of the city’s busiest beaches. It’s also the setting for more postcards and travel snaps than perhaps any other destination in Australia.
Experience Bondi’s carefree, sun-drenched lifestyle with a walk along the main promenade and up to Bondi’s northern headland where you may even spot a minke whale during the migration season between May - November. Hall Street is home to Bondi’s new dining precinct, with favourites like Gelato Messina and Bills taking pride of place on the footpath. Beachfront dining is best experienced at Icebergs Dining Room and Bar, although there are several casual outdoor cafes and fish shops available directly opposite the beach.
Popular Bondi pubs such as the vibrant Beach Road Hotel and the prominent Bondi Hotel offer relaxed atmospheres where you can meet travellers from almost anywhere and sample the best Australian beer available, while more upmarket wine bars such as Ravesi's cater to Bondi's glamourous side. This is also an area where visitors swim year-round, even plunging into the popular ocean baths as soon as the sun comes up. Surfers can be spotted paddling through the waves each morning and several surf schools operate along the beach, such as the Let's Go Surfing school.
Sculpture By The Sea is the world’s largest annual free-to-public exhibition and is located along the popular Bondi to Coogee coastal walk during October - November, featuring over 100 sculptures by local and international artists.
