Why go there
Guthega lies beneath the slopes of Mt Twynam. Smaller in size than Perisher and Thredbo, Guthega has a true village atmosphere. A 40-minute drive from Jindabyne, it joins with Perisher, Blue Cow and Smiggin Holes to form Australia’s largest ski resort region.
History
Guthega was established in the early 1950s when experienced skiers working on the Snowy Mountains Scheme were looking for opportunities for winter recreation.
Further development, including better access via the Skitube alpine railway, occurred in the 1980s and '90s.
