Auswalk Walking Holidays

Leave the car behind - get some fresh air and a healthy dose of exercise on a comfortable inn-to-inn walking holiday. While you walk, your luggage is moved ahead of you. You only need to carry a light day pack containing your picnic lunch, jacket and camera. The trips can be done self-guided using easy-to-follow walking notes and marked maps, or you can choose a guided holiday.

Each day has an average of four to five hours walking, leaving plenty of time for taking photos and enjoying leisurely lunch breaks. There are options along the way so it's easy to increase or decrease the amount of walking you do.

Much of the national park is snow covered from May to November, but then the snow melts, the high peaks of Kosciuszko National Park then become a mecca for walkers keen to see the rugged scenery, masses of spectacular wildflowers and of course reach the summit of Mount Kosciuszko.

On this walk you will see an ancient landscape carved out by receding glaciers of the last Ice Age, enjoy lunch beside a pristine lake and walk through snowgum woodlands and colourful alpine meadows. In summer the wildflowers have to be seen to be believed.

Snow shoeing is just like bushwalking on top of the snow covered ground. It's fun, leisurely and lot easier than skiing, Modern snowshoes are easy to use. They are lightweight and you simply strap them onto your hiking boots and start walking, with the assistance of a couple of stocks (poles) for balance.

Their base is below the snowline, overlooking Lake Jindabyne. Each day you'll travel to the alpine ski areas of Perisher, Thredbo or Blue Cow and head off away from the crowds.

Exactly where you go will depend on the local weather conditions as you will be seeking out sheltered spots with good snow cover, using the underground Ski Tube train or a chairlift.
