Shopping for fresh produce in Sydney
One of the top trends in the food world in recent years has been the return of growers’ markets, and in Sydney it shows no sign of slowing down.
Perhaps the best attended of the weekly gatherings is the inner-city Eveleigh Farmers' Market, held undercover every Saturday morning at Carriageworks, combining a good range of local producers and excellent things to eat (not least when Kylie Kwong’s dumpling stand puts in an appearance).
Celebrity chefs are also a drawcard at the Pyrmont Growers’ Market, held on the first Saturday of each month, though usually more for their demonstrations than selling food.
North of the bridge, one of the biggest names is the Northside Produce Market. Held every third Saturday, it’s been a favourite for more than 15 years, and still packs them in.
In Moore Park, the EQ Village Markets is another veteran, opening twice weekly (Saturday and Wednesday), while if it’s a Sunday you’re after, check out Marrickville Market, which sets up shop on Addison Road.
