World-class performances at Sydney Theatres
Sydney is a lively city bustling with theatre, shows, dance and other performances catering to a wide range of audiences.
Located in Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House hosts some of the biggest names in music, theatre and comedy. Highlights include performances by The Australian Ballet, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Bell Shakespeare and Opera Australia. Regular backstage tours of the Sydney Opera House are also available.
Walsh Bay is home to a number of arts venues including the Wharf Theatre and Sydney Dance Company. The Sydney Theatre is also located here. The company puts on an annual 12-play program consisting of bold new Australian plays and interpretations of its classic repertoire, featuring some of the country's finest actors.
The Capitol Theatre in Haymarket hosts big name productions including Les Misérables. At the Sydney Lyric Theatre in Pyrmont, Matilda the Musical breathes new life into the much-loved classic children's book by Roald Dahl.
The Griffin Theatre Company has its residency at the historic SBW Stables in Kings Cross and is an engine-room for theatrical discovery and diversity, while Slide Lounge in nearby Darlinghurst offers weekly cabaret shows. Just down the road is the popular Belvoir St Theatre in Surry Hills, while cosmopolitan Newtown also has a thriving theatre scene with the Seymour Centre and the Enmore Theatre, where music and comedy are the staple forms of entertainment.

Based on the novel by acclaimed author Roald Dahl, the elaborate stage show tells the story of an extraordinary young girl who dreams of a better life.
Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of Les Misérables is now playing at the Capitol Theatre. A setting such as Sydney Harbour demands a spectacular opera, so prepare for a performance of huge proportions. A royal love triangle, a war, and the famous Triumphal March will light up the waters of Sydney’s magnificent harbour. Aida is the biggest opera ever performed on our harbour stage.
