Sporting events in Sydney
One of the biggest events of Australian winter sport is the State of Origin. This three-game series beginning in May sees New South Wales and Queensland compete for the coveted State of Origin title. In rugby union, the NSW Waratahs represent the state against other Australian clubs and clash with international teams from New Zealand and South Africa in the Super Rugby tournament. On the national union side, the Wallabies play a number of home tests across the country this winter and Sydney’s ANZ Stadium hosts two of these: against France on 21 June and New Zealand on 16 August.
Australia and New Zealand will compete again, this time in touch footy, in the 2014 Trans Tasman Test Series from 25 to 27 April.
Sydney will host some of the best badminton competitors from around the world at the 2014 Australian Badminton Open. Catch all the action live at the State Sports Centre in Sydney Olympic Park from 24 to 29 June.
