Taronga Outdoor Concert Series, Taronga Zoo

Celebrate summer in Sydney by heading to one of the many music and entertainment events held in outdoor locations throughout the city. For three weeks in January, Sydney Festival transforms the city into a hub of theatre, dance, music and ideas starting with Festival First Night. In the past, kids can sing and dance to bands, or watch amazing circus performers. At the Domain, a host of Australian performers provide an evening of entertainment to celebrate the launch of Sydney Festival.

Pack a picnic and enjoy a concert under the stars in the wild surrounds of Taronga Zoo at the Taronga Outdoor Concert Series. Australian and international stars including Caroline O’Connor and James Morrison will perform old favourites and new tunes with picturesque Sydney Harbour as their backdrop.

At the Sydney Opera House, enjoy dramatic performances by Opera Australia, such as Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” and “Turandot”, directed by celebrated choreographer, Graeme Murphy.

If a blockbuster is more your style, pack a picnic and settle on the grass with friends at the Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema, for open-air screenings of new release, classic and cult films on the lawns of Centennial Park.

Admire the city lights sparkling from behind the big screen of the St George OpenAir Cinema at Mrs Macquaries Point, or the salty air of Bondi Beach at the Bondi Openair Cinema. Summer 2012 sees the return of the hugely popular Movies by the Boulevard - a series of free outdoors movies at Sydney Olympic Park.
