Since its inception in 1993, the Australian University Games has grown to be Australia's largest annual multi sport event. Held each September/October, the Games is renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for Australian university athletes and is the flagship event on the national university sporting calendar.

Participants compete in the following sports: athletics, Australian rules football, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, cheer, cycling, fencing, football, futsal, golf, handball, hockey, judo, kendo, lawn bowls, netball, rugby union 7's, sailing, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tenpin bowling, touch, twenty20 cricket, ultimate, volleyball and water polo.
