From over 800 entries, 39 finalists are chosen, but ultimately there can be only one winner.

Awarded to the best painting of a notable Australian - from politicians to celebrities, sporting heroes to artists - the Archibald Prize is a who's who of Australian culture.

This year, see the winning portrait by Del Kathryn Barton of Hugo Weaving, alongside paintings of personalities including Toni Collette, Naomi Watts, Anthony Mundine and Asher Keddie.

Finalists include leading artists such as Imants Tillers, Wendy Sharpe and Jasper Knight, as well as emerging talents of the Australian arts scene.
