The Powerhouse Discovery Centre is the Powerhouse Museum's publicly-accessible, museum storage and collection care facility located in Castle Hill, 40 minutes drive northwest of the central business district. The Discovery Centre provides a very different behind-the-scenes museum experience as well as access to thousands of objects, including historic steam engines, cars, trams and planes and lots of smaller objects such as textiles, dolls, and ceramics displayed in themed artefact drawers.
The Powerhouse Discovery Centre offers a range of unique educational and fun experiences for families and children. During the school holidays the Discovery Centre presents special programs relevant to the collection including storytelling, shows, workshops and hands-on make and do craft activities.
There are also themed open days held on the second Saturday of each month (February-November) which feature a program ranging from tours, talks, behind-the-scenes tours and activities for families and children themed around the Museum's collection.
Opening times
10am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday for pre-booked individual or group visits. Open the second Saturday of the month (February to November) from 10am to 4pm Public Holidays: Closed
