Chinatown & Haymarket Restaurants

Restaurants in Chinatown and Haymarket

Chinatown stretches from Harris Street to Castlereagh Street in Sydney's city centre. This bustling area is the Chinese gateway to traditional Asian grocers and restaurants for the locals and visitors.

Chinatown’s dozens of restaurants provide meeting places for visitors and the large Chinese community living nearby. One of the most popular, Golden Century, is bustling day and night until very late. Live lobster, crab, barramundi and trout fill its fish tanks.

Yum cha, usually consisting of Chinese tea and steamed, fried or baked small dishes, is served at lunchtime in many of Chinatown and Haymarket's restaurants. Diners can choose from dozens of dishes on circulating restaurant trolleys.

Dixon Street, in the heart of Chintatown, features several Asian food halls. Similar to Asia’s open-air hawker centres, each features independently-leased stalls serving a range of Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian and Indonesian dishes.
