If the lakes offer tranquillity, the often thunderous torrents of the mighty Thredbo River in a spring defrost are a completely different prospect. This is a place where the fish jump and hide and race for rapids and waterfalls. This is fly fishing of another dimension.

Previously known as the Crackenback, the river runs from Thredbo to Lake Jindabyne and is without question one of the most beautiful trout-perfect rivers. Giant fish and trout are a likely yield. As one of the region's two only declared "trout spawning streams" the rule is one fish per angler per day (though it is possible to continue to 'catch and release').
